Salutations Nico! My post here is very late, but if there's a chance you are still experiencing the problem, some others among us reported the following, and it seemed to target the problem:
5 years old may mean "Bought five years ago, but is an early 'PHAT' model", or may mean "a PS3-Slim model, bought 5 years ago". Sony has a long history of component changes and disc-drive changes INSIDE each model that coincidentally keep the THERMOSTAT reading "cool" when you're running a disc-game, but cause the thermostat to read "overheating" when playing a game that pushes your built-in internet/modem processing (or sometimes vice versa). Since Sony never comes out and tells us WHERE that blasted thermostat IS, we can't even find it and figure out why it trips when we play Dust and similar online-only games. But apparently it DOES on some players machines.
---One player solved it by contacting CCP, and requesting they "troubleshoot" his Character Account (apparently a glitch in the account was causing his console to get confused, push its processing into a fit, which caused the repeated overheat). They "rebooted" his account for him, or something like a reboot, and the problem was solved.
---One player solved it by "deleting everything" Dust-related from his console (that means erase the entire game, then erase the Dust data that hides in one of the separate game-data folders on your XMB menu--erase EVERYTHING that says 'Dust 514'). He then went to the Sony Network and manually downloaded the game fresh (don't use any of your console's memory shortcuts or download-history links to reload the game---you must load from the Sony Network as if you are loading Dust for the first time). None of your character's assets/stats are lost, because CCP stores them at Tranquility. This eliminated some mystery ghost from his console, and solved the problem.
These two options work ONLY if your console is overheating due to a processing issue it's having with Dust 514. If these solutions don't work on yours, or if you find the console is overheat-quitting on other ONLINE games (never mind the disc-games), then you'll know your Ps3's online processing components truly are in trouble.
I admire PS3s.... way more than I ever will a PS4,... so I truly hope you get a happy ending! Please let us know.
